Narendra Modi government wants to ‘shelve’ caste census: Congress
Congress’ OBC Department chief Anil ‘JaiHind’ Yadav said reservations for women are no longer a matter of debate and the issue is only about its implementation.

“From April 16, the Modi government is holding a special session of Parliament in which the government will bring some changes. Before this, the Modi government had prepared a road map for women’s reservation, in which it was stated that first a census will be conducted, delimitation will be done accordingly and only then reservation for women will be implemented,” Yadav said at a press conference here along with AICC SC Department chief Rajendra Pal Gautam.
INDIA bloc had called on the government to immediately implement the women’s quota law in 2024, but said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not listening to anyone.
“Now it is coming to light that the Modi government will implement this based on the 2011 census. This is no longer true because there have been a lot of changes in the demographics. If the government has to implement women’s reservation based on 2011, why wasn’t it done earlier?” he said.
Yadav pointed out that the Census Commissioner has stated that census data will start being available from 2027. “But now the Modi government wants to amend Article 334(A)…It is clear that the Modi government is blatantly lying and spreading confusion on a large scale. The real hidden agenda of the government is to avoid caste census and deprive OBC women of reservations,” he alleged.

He said that in such a scenario, women in the OBC category would not get an opportunity to be represented in the Lok Sabha.
“If such a large section is deprived of reservation in democracy, this is nothing but murdering democracy,” Yadav said. he said.
He alleged that the Modi government has taken a U-turn on its stand on Caste census due to pressure exerted by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi.
“But in reality, RSS-BJP people have the Manuvadi mentality. These people know that if the data from the caste-based census comes by 2027, there will be pressure on them to give reservation to OBC women as well, and this is the main reason why the Modi government wants to scrap the caste-based census,” he said.
The Budget session of Parliament has been extended and a three-day special session of Parliament has been convened from Thursday, during which amendments will be introduced in the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, more commonly known as the Women’s Reservation Act, for implementation in 2029.
