Rachel Reeves dodges question on her future after Budget unveiled | News

Rachel Reeves dodged a question about whether she would still be chancellor at the next general election after announcing a £26bn package of tax rises in the budget.

Asked if he would still be in the same position because the revenue from tax increases would come into effect after the country goes to its next election, Reeves said: “It’s not often possible to change those rates overnight. And of course the thresholds are towards the end of parliament because the Conservative Party has already frozen them.”

The tax increases come as Ms Reeves struggles with a drop in economic growth forecasts presented in a report the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) mistakenly released before the speech.
