India saw devastating cloud explosion in the states this year.
A cloud explosion hit Yamuna Valley in Uttarkashi on Saturday and triggered flash floods and mud shifts in the Naugaon region. Authorities, although a few houses and vehicles were damaged due to floods, said no losses were reported. PTI, Delhi – Yamunotri motorway was blocked by causing traffic congestion after the incident. What did cm dhami say about the incident?
Regional and state officials, National Disaster Response Power (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Power (SDRF) together with the incident launched rescue operations. A SDRF inspector said that the locals were evacuated to safer areas. Uttarakhand Prime Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered the ongoing rescue efforts with DM Arya and ordered aid operations on the “war basis”. In an article on Facebook, CM Dhami said, “I pray to God for the safety of everyone.” He said.
What is cloud explosion and causes it?
According to the Indian Meteorology Department, a cloud explosion occurs when more than 100 millimeters fall in a small area in a single hour. It is usually a sudden and intense downpour that accompanies storms. Cloud explosion events in India are more common in the rugged regions, especially in Himalayas. Cloud explosions often lead to destructive flash floods and landslides. A cloud explosion caused when strong winds in a cloud prevented the drop of water droplets. The cloud then accumulates a large amount of water and when the weight is no longer supported, the whole water is released with a very heavy rainfall at once.
Why do cloud explosion events rise in India?
This year, India, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, have seen destructive cloud explosion in the states this year. Experts say the frequency increase is linked to global warming and climate change. This is because a warmer atmosphere can hold extra moisture and cause more intense rainfall. Furthermore, weak planning and disintegration in fragile ecosystems and construction can further deteriorate the problem by increasing the sensitivity to landslides and flashes in case of heavy rainfall.
