Kimberley bushfire: ‘Watch and act’ alert issued for blaze burning in WA’s north threatening lives and homes

A burning fire in the north of WA threatens life and houses.

Wyndham-East Kimberley Shire for people in Saturday at 17.30 just before a forest fire and movement warning was released.

The people on the Durack and Gibb River Road on the camp sites on the east side of the Durack River are also asked to be vigilant and the fire moves quickly in the west direction to the Durack River.

The cause of the fire is not known right now.

The Ministry of Fire and Emergency Services suggested that people be separated from the Ellenbrae station if it is safe to do so.

“Take your emergency kit with you. A am/fm radio running batteries should include a first aid bag, wool blanket, telephone, protective clothes, medicine and indispensable valuation,” he read.

“Decide where to go and how to go there. This can be with family or friends away from fire.”

For those who cannot leave their homes safely, DFES recommends keeping your doors and windows off to keep the smoke out.

“If you plan to stay and defend, because you are mentally and physically ready, with protective clothes and an independent water supply.”

“Now make final preparations and start patrol your property to extinguish the spot fires.

“Close evaporative air conditioners, but if possible, to prevent the embers from entering your home, let the water pass through the system.

“Take it away from your home, such as puafats, wheel boxes and outdoor furniture.”
