Rape-accused UK rapper an ‘entitled semi-celebrity’

The British YouTuber and musician accused of violently raping a fan after a gig was a semi-celebrity who paid little attention to his alleged victim, a jury has heard.

Rapper Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is fighting six charges of having sexual intercourse with a 20-year-old woman without her consent in a Perth hotel room in September 2024.

The 30-year-old also denies putting pressure on her neck, preventing her from breathing, and three counts of assault causing bodily harm.

Jurors heard the man allegedly bit, hit, strangled and raped the woman after the couple had consensual sex, leaving visible bruises and visible bite marks on the woman’s skin.

In her closing statement, prosecutor Danielle Clarke described Barrientos as an “entitled man” of “moderate notoriety” who committed sexual violence against an impressionable young woman.

“It didn’t mean anything to him,” Ms Clarke told a Western Australian District Court jury on Tuesday.

“What could and should have been consensual sex quickly turned into sexual violence and a non-consensual nightmare.”

Ms Clarke said one-night stands were not illegal.

“But the problem is that you run the risk of not knowing what a person’s sexual boundaries, limitations or no-go zones are, and that’s what we’re saying is happening in this case,” he said.

The woman agreed to return to the artist’s hotel room, but this did not mean that “the defendant would do whatever he wanted.”

“When you think about the little time he spent with her…before he started biting her, slapping her and choking her…the State says she didn’t care,” Ms Clarke said.

“It didn’t matter what he wore or how famous, important or authoritative Barrientos perceived himself to be.

“Everyone has the right to say no, and he certainly did not want to engage in violent and brutal sexual acts with her.”

Ms. Clarke presented the woman as an open and honest witness.

But he said Barrientos was evasive, unresponsive and tried to hide behind the term “love bite” to describe the injuries the complainant allegedly suffered.

“He had an answer for everything… and he wouldn’t accept anything that would make him look bad,” Ms Clarke said.

The jury was reminded of the allegation that Barrientos and his bodyguard demanded the woman hand over her phone before the sexual act began in the hotel room.

The rapper stated that this was part of “standard practice” to protect her privacy and that the woman still had the option to say no and leave.

“We say there is a clear balance of power,” the prosecutor said.

“It was literally their way or the highway.”

Testifying on Monday, Barrientos denied attacking the woman and said she enjoyed “great” sex and made sexual noises while biting him.

The entertainer did not acknowledge that the woman started crying during sex and forced him to continue.

Later, Barrientos ordered a Wagyu burger from room service for himself and an Uber for the woman.

She denied him ordering hot chips.

“If I bought him an Uber, I would definitely buy his chips,” he said.
