Most Bihar Cabinet Ministers are wealthier than CM Nitish Kumar

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are significantly richer than Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, according to the public declaration of assets of the state Cabinet members on the last day of 2025.
Mr. Kumar has only ₹ 20,552 in cash and ₹ 57,000 in total deposits with the bank; of which ₹27,217 is at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Patna Secretariat, ₹3,358 at the SBI branch at Parliament House, Delhi, and ₹27,191 at the Punjab National Bank branch at Boring Road, Patna.
A Dwarka flat, treadmill and charkha
The CM’s total assets are worth ₹1.66 crore, an increase of ₹68,455 from last year’s declaration. It has movable assets worth ₹17.66 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹1.48 crore. He does not have any agricultural land or houses in Patna. He owns a flat in Delhi’s Dwarka (Sector-5), which was purchased in 2004 for ₹ 13.78 lakh. Its current market capitalization is ₹1.48 crore. There is no investment fund or any insurance policy.
Mr. Kumar owns two gold rings and one silver ring studded with pearls, with a total market value of ₹ 2,03,000. He also has 10 cows and 13 calves with a total value of ₹ 1.45 lakh. Other notable assets include a treadmill worth ₹35,000 and charka (spinning wheel) worth ₹10,550, an exercise cycle and other household appliances like a microwave oven.
In order to increase transparency in public administration and combat corruption, the asset declaration practice started in January 2011. The CM and his Cabinet colleagues uploaded the asset details on the website of the Office of the Cabinet Secretariat on Wednesday evening, December 31, 2025.
Rich Deputy CMs
Deputy CM Mr. Choudhary, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who also heads the Home Ministry, declared that his assets are worth ₹6.38 crore. He holds ₹1.35 lakh in cash and ₹34.88 lakh in deposits in banks. His wife has a balance of ₹12.82 lakh in her bank account. He is fond of guns and owns an NP Bore Rifle worth ₹ 4 lakh and a pistol worth ₹ 2 lakh, given to him by his father. He also owns a Bolero Neo worth ₹7 lakh.
Mr. Choudhary purchased bonds worth ₹30 lakh and LIC insurance policy worth ₹19 lakh and purchased his own jewelery and bullion worth ₹20 lakh. His wife Kumari Mamta owns 200 grams of gold with a market value of ₹ 20 lakh.
Deputy CM Mr. Sinha has total assets worth ₹8.81 crore, six times more than the Bihar CM. This includes movable properties worth ₹ 5.13 crore and immovable properties worth ₹ 3.68 crore. Mr. Sinha owns 90 grams of gold worth ₹ 10 lakh, which he received as a gift during the family marriage. He also has a rifle and pistol, as well as ₹88,560 in cash. His wife Sushila Devi owns a company called Shiva Enterprises worth ₹ 2.40 crore. He also owns real estate worth ₹ 3.02 crore and has ₹ 67,528 in cash.
The only three Ministers in the Bihar Cabinet whose declared wealth is less than the CM’s are Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Singh Tiger and Surendra Mehta.
