Des Headland: Aveley grandfather traumatised after coward punch outside his home, no arrests two months on

The father of Fremantle Dockers star Des Headland was left traumatized after a teenager cowardly punched him outside his own home – and almost two months later no one has yet been held accountable.
The violent incident occurred just after 3.30am, when a loud crash shattered the silence of the suburban street and woke elderly Des Headland and his wife.
“I said to my wife, ‘I think it was my car that got hit,'” Mr Headland said.
His car was hit by a group of young people. The situation quickly escalated when Mr Headland went out to confront them.
“They were a little arrogant towards me and I told the young man to calm down,” he said.
Mr Headland was cowardly punched before the attack continued.
“(He) pushed me into the brick wall and then I was still lying on the ground and he picked me up again and threw me into the car door,” Mr Headland said.
The attack ended with the neighbor’s intervention.
“I don’t know how far they would have gone if he hadn’t stopped them,” he said.
“They could have killed me.”
The 63-year-old man was taken to hospital and received five stitches.
His daughter, Kelly Cameron, said it was devastating to see her father injured.

“It was disheartening to see him lying there with the injuries they caused. I couldn’t believe someone would do that to him.”
Although Mr. Headland’s physical wounds are slowly healing, the emotional impact remains. Almost two months after the attack, no arrests have been made, leaving him in fear in his own neighbourhood.
“Every time I go out, I look up and down the road before getting in my car on the way to work,” he said.
Frustrated and angry, Mr Headland has a message for the person responsible.
“Go and be a man; admit your mistakes,” he said.
