RBI declares bank holiday in Bihar, Jharkhand, and these states; check dates

The holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) states that banks in Bihar and Jharkhand will remain closed for two consecutive days next week on October 27 and 28, 2025, to celebrate Chhath Puja.

Chhath Puja Public Holiday 2025: Chhath Puja is one of the most sacred and popular festivals in regions like Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Since the popular Hindu festival is celebrated for four days, banks will be closed on certain days during this period. According to the holiday schedule of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks in Bihar and Jharkhand will remain closed for two consecutive days next week on October 27 and 28, 2025, to celebrate Chhath Puja.

With these two days, bank officials will go on an extended weekend holiday on October 25 and 26.

However, in West Bengal, banks will remain closed only on October 27 (Monday), while in other states, banking services will operate as on normal days. Since Chhath festival is specific to the state, regional offices of RBI declared such holidays as per local customs

Chhath Puja, one of the most important festivals of Hindus, is celebrated with devotion and strict rituals for four days. The second day of Chhath Puja, known as Kharna or Lohanda, falls on Sunday, October 26, 2025. This day is celebrated by fasting, devotion and preparation of special offerings to Surya Dev (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. Closely following the Diwali holidays, this sacred festival dedicated to Surya Dev (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya is deeply rooted in devotion, purity and gratitude. Primarily celebrated in Bihar, the festival’s enthusiasm has now spread widely to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and many other parts of India.
