RCB home matches set to move out from Chinnaswamy Stadium to…

RCB’s home matches in IPL 2026 may be shifted from the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium to Pune’s MCA Stadium following the tragic stampede earlier this year. This would be the first time in IPL history that RCB played all their home matches outside Bengaluru. The final decision has not yet been approved.
Having finally won their first IPL title in 2025 after 17 years of heartbreak, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were looking forward to a special season in 2026. As the defending champions, RCB fans were eagerly awaiting to see their team play on home soil at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, celebrating their title defence. However, as discussions continue about the team playing all home games at a different venue, recent reports cast a shadow on this dream.
Tragic Incident at M Chinnaswamy Stadium
The main reason behind this potential move is the tragic stampede that took place during the RCB victory parade at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier this year. The stampede, which resulted in the death of many innocent people, raised concerns about the safety of the stadium. Following the incident, the Karnataka authorities reportedly declared the venue unfit to host major events, creating a challenging environment for the franchise to hold home matches in IPL 2026.
Pune’s MCA Stadium as a Potential New Home
The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune has emerged as a potential host for RCB’s home matches next season, according to a report by The Times of India. MCA secretary Kamlesh Pai confirmed that his organization had offered its stadium to RCB and preliminary talks were ongoing. However, the final decision depends on resolving some technical details before an official announcement is made. If these issues are resolved, Pune could become RCB’s new home for the 2026 IPL season.
RCB To Play Away From Home For The First Time
If the move to Pune happens, it will be a historic first for RCB in the 18-year history of the IPL. The team has always played its home matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, creating a unique bond with its passionate fans in Bengaluru. While RCB have faced venue changes in the past, either during the 2009 IPL when the tournament was shifted to South Africa due to general elections, or during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2022) where matches were held at neutral venues, this would be the first time that RCB’s home ground was permanently changed due to external factors.
Blow to Fans, But Safety Comes First
For RCB supporters, the potential of losing their home in IPL 2026 is a huge disappointment. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has long been a bastion for the team with the unwavering support of the fans. But given the tragic events that unfolded earlier this year, the need for safety and security must take priority. If Pune becomes RCB’s new home this season, both the team and the fans will have to adapt to this unexpected change while also hoping that the franchise continues its winning ways in their new surroundings.
