PM Modi Bats For BJP Hat-Trick In Assam

Guwahati language : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a frontal attack on the opposition Congress party, accusing them of being patrons of infiltrators and asserting that the BJP is all set to score a hat-trick by winning the upcoming assembly elections in Assam.

Addressing two election rallies, the first in Gogamukh and the second in Behali, Mr Modi warned that if the Congress party comes to power in Assam, they will pass a law to protect infiltrators, which the BJP and its allies will not allow.

Accusing that the Congress intends to turn the majority community into a minority and create a permanent vote bank of infiltrators, the Chief Minister reminded that before the BJP came to power in 2014, the Congress tried to pass a law in the parliament under which they wanted to hold the majority community responsible for every communal riot, but the NDA opposed it and failed in the move.

Asserting that the leaks were a threat to the existence and identity of the people of the state, Mr. Modi said, “Congress leaders are openly saying that they will bring a new law in Assam to protect the leakers and openly supporting them.”

Equating the Congress party with the Muslim League, Mr Modi said: “The Congress party was trying to divide the country. They also took a stab at the Constitution prepared by Babasaheb Ambedkar. They can resort to any means to grab power in the state.”

Targeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi at the national level and Gaurav Gogoi in the state, the Prime Minister said, “There are two families for the Congress, one in Delhi and the other in Assam, and their priority is not the interests of the people but their own families.”

Announcing that if the BJP returns to power, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code to preserve Assam’s identity and protect tribals under the Sixth schedule, Mr. Modi said, “BJP’s 10 years of rule heralded a new dawn of ‘seva’ (service) and ‘sushasan’ (good governance) in Assam.”

Noting that there was massive turnout even after the rain, Mr. Modi said this reflects your belief in the twin-engine government.

He said Assam has witnessed remarkable development in the last decade and expressed confidence that the people of the state will once again celebrate the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Prime Minister reiterated that this election will shape the vision of a developed India. “This time the election will be held by Viksit Bharat (Developed India)…BJP will form the government again in Assam and score a hat-trick,” he added.

He also flagged the basic welfare measures promised in the BJP manifesto for the Assembly elections. While claiming that 22 lakh poor families have pucca houses in Assam so far, he said that more than 15 lakh families in Assam will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and assured that every family who is yet to buy a pucca house will be covered. He added that poor families will get “free education from KG to PG”, highlighting a significant progress towards improving education.

He also highlighted women-centered welfare efforts. Mr. Modi said around 3 lakh women in Assam have already become “Lakhpati Baideo” through the Lakhpati Didi scheme. He explained that NDA aims to expand this to 40 lakh women in the coming years. He also stated that the Orunodoi scheme will receive further improvements to deliver wider benefits.

On agriculture, Mr. Modi said 20 lakh farmers in Assam have received financial assistance of Rs 7,500 so far and promised increased support of Rs 11,000 or more annually for small farmers.

He added that 18,000 billion rupees would be allocated under a special mandate to address losses due to floods, a recurring problem in the state.

He also said that peace has returned in the state as many former militants have laid down arms and Assam has now moved beyond its traditional identity.

“There was a time when Assam was known worldwide only for tea. Now Assam will be known for semiconductor chips as well as tea,” he said, referring to upcoming technological investments.
