Reeves shoots herself in the foot after brutal Kemi Badenoch PMQs jibe | Politics | News

Kemi Badenoch has torn apart a Cabinet row over the Budget, shattered Labor’s chaos and left the House of Commons in a difficult position. The Tory leader, who blasted Sir Keir’s handling of last week’s budget, read anonymous briefings from the Prime Minister’s own Cabinet ministers who were furious at last week’s antics.

During Prime Minister’s Questions he said: “’The management of this Budget has been a disaster from start to finish.’ Ms Badenoch pointed to the front row and asked: “Who said that? Was it him? Was it him? Pointing at Mrs. Reeves, he said sarcastically: “Actually, it was probably her! It was probably the Chancellor!”

Tory MPs laughed and shouted “more!” she shouted as the cameras cut to Ms. Reeves, who couldn’t hide her smile at the joke.

Ms Badenoch continued: “One of his ministers said the Chancellor and Prime Minister ‘look weak and incompetent’ and the country agrees!”

“We know that there have been countless Treasury briefings justifying raising taxes so that hard-working people can get benefits, and that these briefings have real-world consequences!

“Hundreds of thousands of people have cut their pensions; this is an irreversible action.

“If the chairman of the OBR had to resign because of market-sensitive leaks, why is the Chancellor still in his job?”

Sir Keir repeated his claim that the Conservative Party was separated from Labor by a ‘£22bn black hole’ and that the OBR had cut its productivity forecasts this year as a result of the way the Conservative Party had managed the economy.

The Conservative Party leader, who demanded an apology from Ms Badenoch, laughed at the suggestion.

“Nobody believes a single word of the Prime Minister! We know” [Rachel Reeves’s] The ‘black hole’ was fake, his book was fake, his CV was fake, even his chess claims were fake!

“It doesn’t belong to the Treasury, it belongs to the la la lands!”

Ms Badenoch went on to condemn Labor divisions and pointed out that the Government had increased taxes on working people by £26bn to appease far-left MPs demanding higher welfare spending.

“He was now bragging about removing the two-child benefit limit but saying it couldn’t be met. He even removed the whip from 7. [MPs] Because you want the same thing.

“He’s more than happy to throw them under the bus when it suits him. So I ask the Prime Minister how he suddenly became affordable just when he needed to save his own skin?”

Sir Keir emphasized that the vast majority of welfare recipients work and 3/4 of children in poverty are from working families.

Claiming that the Conservatives’ two-child benefit limit was pushing hundreds of thousands of children into poverty, he said: “They should be totally ashamed of this.”

Ms Badenoch hit back: “It’s not just the head of the OBR who has lost his job, it’s millions of people who have been left out to dry by their budgets.

“Behind everything is a Prime Minister who only cares about one person’s job, his own job!”
