Government sources in the same publication said that they extradited 5,430 foreign criminals last year. This represents an increase of 12% compared to the same period 12 months ago.
Figures from Statista show there were 24,634,704 recorded crimes in England between 2020-21 and 2024-25.
The Office for National Statistics has reported that crimes against individuals and households have fallen over the last decade, with some exceptions including sexual assault.
The Crime Survey for England and Wales estimates there were 9.6 million headline crime incidents in the survey year ending December 2024, according to the ONS.
Major crimes include theft, robbery, criminal damage, fraud, computer misuse, and violence with or without injury.
