Trump warns NYC could elect ‘communist’ mayor Zohran Mamdani in race

Minister Donald Trump He said Tuesday he believes New York City could soon elect a “communist” mayor and signaled he would prefer a Democrat take the reins at City Hall rather than a far-left candidate.

When asked at a White House press conference whether he would encourage Republican Curtis Sliwa to drop out of the race, Trump did not endorse anyone but made clear his concern about current polls with just two weeks until Election Day.

“I looked at the polls and it looks like we’re going to elect a communist as mayor of New York,” Trump said. “It’s going to be very interesting. But here’s the good news. It has to go through the White House, everything goes through the White House. At least this White House does.”

Trump suggested former Gov. Andrew Cuomo could close the gap on Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani if ​​Sliwa dropped out of the race, but he wasn’t sure that would change the outcome.

Asked if he would be willing to meet with Mamdani if ​​elected, Trump said he would.

“Yes, I will talk to him,” the President said. “I think I need to talk to him.”

Still, Trump lamented what he saw as the city’s decline under progressive leadership.

“I love New York. I’ve always loved New York. I can’t believe something like this happened,” he said. “I left New York and we had a mayor, [Bill] de Blasio was a disaster… New York was a hot city. And now it’s sad to see what’s happened, frankly.”
