Regional Powers Meet in Pakistan for Talks to End Iran War

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the country’s parliamentary speaker, said Iranian forces were “waiting for American troops to take the field to set themselves on fire and punish their regional partners forever.”
Kalibaf added: “Our fire continues. Our missiles are in place. Our determination and faith have increased.”
The comments came as regional powers met in Pakistan to discuss how to end conflict in the Middle East, as nearly 2,500 US Marines arrived in the region and Iran-backed Houthi rebels entered a month-long war.
The war threatened global oil and gas supplies, caused fertilizer shortages, and disrupted air travel. Iran’s dominance over the strategic Strait of Hormuz has shaken markets and prices.
The Houthis’ entry could further damage global shipping if they again target ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait off the Red Sea, through which about 12 percent of world trade passes.
