Remedial teaching to improve SSLC results in districts of Kalyana Karnataka region

In order to improve the SSLC results of seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka district, which are observed to be lagging behind, the State government has decided to implement remedial teaching program in government and aided schools. These private lessons will be offered individually to all students grouped as above average, below average and below average from January to March.

While teachers taking these classes will get ₹1,000 per month, each school will get ₹6,000 to cover the travel expenses of students attending these classes remotely. The state government has allocated ₹3.44 crore for the project, which will be borne by the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB).

In order to ensure the success of students, the program called “Mission 40+” aims to achieve 90 percent results in these seven districts. This comes against a backdrop where the region is doing poorly compared to other parts of the state. In 2024-25, Kalaburagi district ranked last with a result of 41.35 percent. Other districts also had poor results: Ballari (50.91%), Bidar (52.3%), Koppal (56.57%), Raichur (50.76%), Vijayapura (66.78%) and Yadgir (59.6%). Kalyana Karnataka district achieved 52.42% result. Of the total 1,70,788 students who appeared for the exam in the district, only 89,519 passed while 82,169 failed.

7,462 teachers will be assigned

There are a total of 1,345 government high schools in the districts of Kalyana Karnataka district, including Kannada, Urdu and Marathi medium. A total of 7,462 teachers will be assigned for the remedial education program.

The instruction stated, “In line with the annual academic directive, steps should be taken to complete the curriculum by the end of December 2025. In order to improve the quality of writing and improve students’ writing ability, a private lesson for a subject should be organized every day before the school session, and the answers to subject-based model question papers should be written after the school session every day. And these should be read aloud.”

The instruction also states, “Students who do not attend classes continuously for more than seven days should be visited at their homes, consulted and brought back to school. It is stated that in order to improve the learning of students with weak learning characteristics, steps should be taken towards learning by creating group activities for learning together with students who are making progress in learning.”
