A fatal collision on the A55 left one person dead and the main road closed for seven hours. The fatal crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of Halkyn early Saturday morning. The main A-road was closed eastbound at the Caerwys junction for several hours, leading to disruption to travel in the area.
Police have confirmed one person has died in a single-car collision and have appealed for any witnesses to the incident or vehicles with dashcams traveling nearby to come forward. A spokesman for the force said: “At 00:47, North Wales Police received multiple reports of a single vehicle collision involving a Ford Ranger pickup on the eastbound carriageway of the A55 at junction 32.
“Emergency services attended but unfortunately the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Detective Sergeant Katie Davies, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time. They will now be supported by a specially trained Family Liaison Officer.”
He continued: “Our investigations are ongoing and we would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, or anyone who was traveling along the A55 near the Halkyn area and has dashcam footage, to contact us as soon as possible.”
The A55 was closed from 01.00am until 08.30am this morning (11 October). North Wales Live A notice was made due to traffic being diverted off the road. Drivers reported seeing many police cars, ambulances and firefighters at the scene.
The spokesman added: “The road was closed to enable officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to carry out their initial investigation and the A55 reopened at approximately 8.30am.
