Residents complain about delay in construction of ROB, illegal sand mining on Palar riverbed

Two years ago, when a team of experts from Southern Railways and State Highways inspected the existing manned railway level crossing (LC 81) in Vaniyambadi town for road-over-bridge (ROB) construction, residents were hopeful that the waiting ordeal at the level crossing would end soon.
Even though months have passed, drivers wait patiently under the scorching sun at the level crossing between the eastern and western parts of this riverside town. C. Sethuraman, a resident of the area, said, “Local issues are important during the elections. We have been struggling for more than twenty years to have a new bridge built instead of the railway level crossing. Candidates of major political parties gave us assurances about the bridge, but our suffering has not changed.”
