Residents told to evacuate bushfire near Lower Chittering, north of Perth, Western Australia

Residents near Lower Chittering in Western Australia have been urged to “take immediate action to survive” as an out-of-control bushfire began burning overnight.
The warning area covers more than 4000 hectares of rural land approximately 70km north of Perth and is bordered by Julimar Rd, Plunkett Rd, Beach Rd and Chittering Rd.
The district covers Julimar, Moondyne, Chittering and Lower Chittering counties.
Emergency services were first notified of the fire on Saturday night and residents in the area were urged to flee at 4.20am.
“You are in danger and you need to take immediate action to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.
Those in the warning area or larger watch and action area were told to leave to the south or west if safe to do so.
The incident occurred as much of the Midwest and Wheatbelt regions were subject to a complete fire ban for the next two days due to extreme fire risk.
A severe heatwave warning has been issued for large areas of south Western Australia; Maximum temperatures will remain in the mid-30s to 40s through Tuesday.
