‘Resigning due to Delhi pollution’: Akums Finance head steps down as AQI crosses 400-mark

Rajkumar Bafna, Chief Financial Officer of Delhi-based pharmaceutical major Akums Pharmaceuticals and Pharmaceuticals, tendered his resignation on Sunday, December 28, 2025, citing pollution in the national capital as the reason for his move, according to an exchange filing.
Bafna’s resignation email to the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) emphasized that he was leaving the company due to the current pollution level in Delhi. He also offered to assist the company during his transition.
“I would like to inform you that I have resigned from my post as Chief Financial Officer due to Delhi Pollution level. Please remove me as soon as possible,” Rajkumar Bafna said in an email to CFO Sumeet Sood, according to the BSE filing.
What did the company say?
Responding to Bafna’s email, Akums Pharmaceuticals and Pharmaceuticals CFO said that, taking into account health concerns, the company decided to dismiss him as of December 31, 2025.
Akums Drugs and Pharma CFO Sumeet Sood said, “Although we regret your decision, we cannot convince you considering your health problem. We will officially relieve you on December 31, 2025, as we wish.”
The company notified the stock exchanges that they accepted Rajkumar Bafna’s resignation from his senior management position due to personal reasons.

Mint It had earlier reported that the overall air quality index (AQI) in Delhi remained in the “severe” category as it crossed the 400 mark on Sunday. CPCB live tracking data showed that early on Sunday, around 8 am, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 445.
Air quality levels on Sunday were Ashok Vihar at 427, Aya Nagar at 344, Dwarka-Sector 8 at 402, Okhla Phase-2 at 423 and Wazirpur at 435. According to the CPCB classification, AQI levels of 0 to 50 are considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 are ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 are ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 are ‘poor’, 301 to 400 are ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 are ‘severe’.
Although last week, Delhi witnessed relatively better air quality on Wednesday and Thursday before pollutant levels started rising again from Friday, December 26, 2025.
