Revanth Backs SC Sub-Categorisation, Calls for Support to Weaker Sections

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said his government stands with the weaker sections and has taken historic steps to implement Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-classification, a long-awaited demand in the state.
Speaking at Shilpakala Vedika, the Prime Minister said that the Congress government came to power in the 2023 elections with the support of people who want transparent and people-centered governance. He said the government was established without the support of monetary power or misuse of administrative mechanisms.
Revanth Reddy said that the issue of SC classification has been pending for decades and many activists have even sacrificed their lives during the struggle. He added that he had personally witnessed the incident for nearly 20 years and supported the movement as much as possible.
Telangana was the first state to implement the SC sub-classification after the directions of the Supreme Court, the Chief Minister said, adding that the decision was taken despite political pressures. He acknowledged the support of his cabinet colleagues and officials in moving the process forward.
Referring to the characters in Mahabharata, the Prime Minister said that he admired Karna and Barbarika, who stood with the weak and fought for justice. “In the same spirit, I stood with the Madiga community, which is among the most backward sections,” he said.
Revanth Reddy stated that SC classification alone may not solve all the problems but the government will address other concerns like promotions, higher education opportunities, land issues and protection of allotted lands.
He also said government employees are the eyes and ears of the government and urged them to ensure that social welfare programs reach the poor. He said that the state government has implemented various programs under ‘Praja Palana’ and ‘Pragati Pranalika’ initiatives.
The Prime Minister added that the government is working to provide ration cards, Indiramma houses, quality rice distribution and free electricity to eligible beneficiaries. He also emphasized that education is the key to social progress and said reforms have been introduced in the education sector.
Revanth Reddy said the government has increased diet and cosmetic fees for students in government hostels and is preparing plans to provide quality education to disadvantaged communities.
He urged members of the Madiga community to take advantage of educational opportunities and aim to become collectors, doctors, engineers and lawyers rather than being limited to traditional professions.
“My opportunity as Prime Minister is to help people. I will use my power to support your community and ensure your rights are protected under the law,” he said.
