Revising Committee to Screen ‘Jana Nayagan’ Soon Amid Ongoing Censor Dispute

According to industry sources, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) revision committee will screen Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan on March 17. Originally scheduled for March 9, the screening was postponed for administrative reasons, including a member’s illness.
Directed by H Vinoth, the film faced long delays in getting certification. After the review committee initially recommended a U/A 16+ rating with minor changes, a complaint led to a referral to the revision committee. The impasse led to a legal battle in the Madras High Court. The producers later withdrew their petition to allow the CBFC process to proceed. The review is expected to resolve certification issues, leading to the film’s theatrical release and the finalization of OTT deals affected by the uncertainty.
Recently, news emerged that the film’s OTT deal has been renegotiated by Amazon Prime Video with KVN Productions. If true, the value of the deal will be deducted to account for the delay. Streaming giants generally reserve their rights if a movie is delayed for any reason.
