‘RHOBH’ star Teddi Mellencamp reflects on brain surgery 1 year after cancer diagnosis

Teddi Mellencamp opened up about her cancer journey a year after she was hospitalized and required emergency brain surgery.

The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star was hospitalized last year with electrodes placed on her head before a brain scan, in an image shared on Monday.

Shortly after Mellencamp, 44, announced his diagnosis in February 2025, he shaved his head to prepare for surgery to remove several tumors.

“One year ago today, I went to the emergency room thinking I had a migraine and within 24 hours had surgery for stage 4 tumors the size of a plum in my brain,” Mellencamp said on Instagram. “There’s a lot of anxiety around me today, but I’m also grateful.”

“I am grateful for the doctors and nurses who took care of me, my family and friends for supporting me, and the love you gave me.”

He encouraged his followers to “trust their instincts” and “be in control.”

Teddi shared that she was first diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in March 2022, and then skin cancer was revealed in April 2025. Promoted to stage 4 He said it spread to his brain and lungs. He had surgery to remove tumors from his brain, and said at the time that doctors found more tumors as they removed them.

A scan later that month showed his tumors had reduced in size. One of the debilitating effects he experienced during his cancer journey was his inability to speak clearly. His last role in “The Masked Singer” helped him in many ways.

“‘The Masked Singer’ did a lot for me because I was really, really sick leading up to it,” Teddi said. “And now I’m even seeing improvement in my movements… If you watch closely while I’m singing, my hands were actually shaking. And I had forgotten how much I was shaking.”

“Then when I was watching this I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I forgot about that,’ because when you’re healing you forget, you only think about the negative and not the positive. And I was like, ‘This is such a positive thing. It drove me crazy.’

He added: “I couldn’t write, it was like my hands were shaking so much I couldn’t write. My hands don’t shake at all anymore… You should be grateful for these things, because these things happen, whether it’s in my time zone or not.”

“I’ve learned a lot from other people on the internet. You know, we’ve got to be honest, it’s been some tough years for me on the internet, like people were coming for me, it was like constantly,” Mellencamp said. “And now I can tell you that a lot of people have reached out to me about any situation where I have to get a check-up or a dermatologist comes in and says you’re getting a check-up and that’s happening. I’m so grateful that that’s happened to me because I’m able to share that with so many people, whether it’s my podcast, my television shows, anything.”

“I want to share it with as many people as possible because you have to be your own health advocate.”
