‘Direct’, ‘Faster’ And ‘Strong’: Trump Defends Tariffs Move To Shield US Interests | World News

US President Donald Trump has defended his aggressive tariff strategy aimed at protecting national security and strengthening the US economy, describing it as swift, direct and forceful. He claims the approach has already strengthened trade relations, curbed foreign exploitation and delivered measurable results in markets, military and domestic initiatives.
Washington, DC: In a challenge to presidential authority, President Donald Trump defended his administration’s aggressive use of tariffs, describing the strategy as a swift and decisive tool to protect US national security.
Writing in Truth Social, he argued that although multiple mechanisms exist for collecting import duties, the current approach implemented directly through the United States Supreme Court is far superior.

“While the United States has other methods of collecting TARIFFs against foreign countries, many of whom have TARGETED OUR NATION’S ADVANTAGES FOR YEARS, the current method of Tariffing before the United States Supreme Court is much more DIRECT, LESS CHALLENGING, and MUCH FASTER, all ingredients necessary for a STRONG AND STABLE NATIONAL SECURITY OUTCOME,” he said.
Trump framed these tariffs as central to his broader efforts to protect American interests. Emphasizing the speed and impact of his policies, he added: “SPEED, POWER AND PRECISION ARE ALWAYS IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR GETTING THE JOB DONE PERMANENTLY AND VICTORIOUSLY.”
He also touched on his administration’s track record, saying, “I resolved 8 Wars in 10 months because of the rights expressly granted to the President of the United States.”
The US president emphasized that he did not challenge the authority of foreign governments and said, “If countries didn’t think these rights existed, they would say it loud and clear!”
To Trump, this showed that his tariff policies were entirely within his legal authority.
The defense comes as the administration continues to seek judicial support for its controversial trade policies. Trump recently asked the Supreme Court to uphold his tariff program and insisted his actions support the American economy.
“Tariffs have made our Country Rich, Powerful, Powerful and Secure,” he said in his post, adding: “They have been used successfully against us by other countries for decades, but when it comes to Tariffs and because of what I have put in place, WE HAVE ALL THE CARDS and with a smart President, we will always use them!”
Since April, the administration has launched multiple rounds of “Liberation Day” tariffs, followed by trade deals with international partners. While defending these policies, Trump claimed that they stopped international conflicts and strengthened diplomatic ties, saying, “Wars were stopped and stronger relations were established with other countries, even though they were no longer allowed to rip off the United States.”
Trump also attributed the tariffs to domestic successes, saying, “The stock market and 401ks are at an all-time high, Inflation, Prices and Taxes are DOWN.”
He highlighted broader national gains, posting: “Education is being brought back to the United States (where it belongs!) and our Military and Southern Border are the strongest they have ever been. The United States is being respected again, respected like never before.”
The Supreme Court is now considering whether Trump’s use of tariffs is within presidential authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a law enacted in 1977 to allow the regulation of imports during national emergencies.
Legal experts on the conservative-leaning panel expressed skepticism about applying the law to tariffs, a move that has never been tried before. Critics argue that the law was never intended to cover duties.
Supporting Trump’s actions could significantly expand the president’s authority, while neutralizing them could lead to what Judge Amy Coney Barrett warned could be a “mess.”
He urged the court to protect his trade safeguards and warned that without tariffs, the United States risks losing its economic edge.
“All this was achieved by Strong Leadership and Tariffs, without which we would still be poor and pathetic laughing stock,” he wrote, adding: “Evil, hateful American Forces are fighting us in the Supreme Court of the United States. Pray to God that our Nine Justices will show great wisdom and do what is right for America!”
Meanwhile, the administration has hinted at contingency plans in case the court rules against the tariffs. Rising prices and inflation increased the urgency of these policies.
Trump recently signed an executive order reducing tariffs on certain products to reduce grocery costs and proposed a $2,000 dividend to “working families” funded by import tax revenue; this plan faced strong legal and political opposition.
As the legal battle continues, Trump continues to portray tariffs as the cornerstone of his approach to strengthening the country both economically and strategically, framing the Supreme Court decision as vital to America’s future.
