Sarah Ferguson’s planned “next move” could be in jeopardy due to her ex-husband’s involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. The former Duchess of York, whose whereabouts have been unknown since being evacuated from the Royal Lodge in Windsor along with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in February, has reportedly been offered six-figure interview offers with US media outlets after being removed from royal life.
But it has been claimed that newly revealed information about his relationship with the pedophile financier could jeopardize his lucrative career prospects. Max Goldbart, international TV editor at US publication Deadline, said: “It’s hard to say whether they’ll now believe he’s so tainted.”
The US Department of Justice (DoJ) earlier this year released a new tranche of the “Epstein dossier” that included emails in which Sarah praised Epstein as “the brother I always wished for” after his 2008 sex crime conviction.
Goldbart told the BBC that a tell-all interview might be “a bit jarring” if it went off the radar, but it would “no doubt make for good television.”
“American audiences are particularly fascinated by the Royal Family psychodrama that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is currently confirmed to be,” he said.
If the speculative bids are canceled it would be a fresh blow for the 66-year-old, who was stripped of his titles by the King last year and now faces losing his freedom in the City of York.
He was given the honor as a wedding gift in 1987, but the City of York has scheduled a meeting for March 26 and said the agenda was solely to discuss stripping him of the honor.
Andrew’s freedom in the City of York was removed in 2022 when he became the first person to have it stripped.
The couple also faced increasing pressure to give MPs evidence about their links to Epstein; Members of Congress suggested Sarah could provide “information relevant to the investigation.”
Six companies linked to the former duchess also began to close following the publication of the “Epstein files”, according to Companies House.
Sarah’s Trust, the charity she founded in 2018, also announced in January that it would close “for the foreseeable future”, just days after new details about her friendship with Epstein emerged.
The fact that his name is mentioned in the files does not constitute evidence of a crime.
