Rockstar Games delays Grand Theft Auto VI – again – to late 2026 | Grand Theft Auto VI

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI, which was planned to be released on May 26 next year, has been postponed again, this time until the end of 2026. It’s been almost two years since the game was announced and over 12 years since Grand Theft Auto V was released.
Rockstar Games’ statement about X is as follows: “Grand Theft Auto VI will now be released on Thursday, November 19, 2026.”
The long-awaited game features a pair of romantically entangled criminals named Jason and Lucia in Rockstar’s sun-bleached version of Miami, Vice City, and the larger Florida-like state of Leonida. It has been in development at Rockstar North in Edinburgh since 2018, with help from the company’s other studios in New York and around the world. The original release date was late 2025.
It was hoped that GTA VI would revive the ailing gaming industry, which has suffered a contraction following the Covid-era boom. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, has generated $8.6 billion in revenue since its launch in 2013, according to game publisher Take-Two’s latest financial reports. Rockstar’s latest game, the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in 2018 and achieved sales of $725 million in its opening weekend.
Gamers, meanwhile, have spent a long time eagerly awaiting Rockstar’s latest game: Even by the standards of the video games industry, where six-year development periods for blockbuster games are not unusual, the 12-plus year wait for Grand Theft Auto VI was quite a long one.
