Joe Rogan and comedian Adam Carolla He criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom He argued Friday that because of his rhetoric about climate change, he should blame the wildfires in the Palisades on mismanagement by local leaders.

Almost a year after the Palisades wildfires became international news, critics still accuse state leaders of failing to adequately prepare for or adequately respond to the fires.

“The thing about fires is, Gavin Newsom says, ‘Oh, climate change“You know, you’re blaming everything on climate change, which is crazy,” Carolla said on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. he said.

“That was hilarious,” Rogan agreed. The podcast has long been critical of California’s political leadership, particularly Newsom himself.

Carolla praised New Orleans and Las Vegas as examples of places where people have managed to circumvent the forces of nature to create vibrant cities, and argued that California has shown that it can withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes thanks to local codes and building codes.

“So you can mitigate any of those things,” he said.

But as California braces for earthquakes, local leaders have been repeatedly accused of failing to adequately prepare for wildfires in the Palisades.

“So we didn’t prepare for fires. We didn’t clear the brush. We didn’t fill the reservoirs. We didn’t do everything,” Carolla continued. “And Newsom is going ‘climate change.'”

Rogan agreed, saying Los Angeles has had the same dry climate for a long time and has always faced major fires.

“LA has always been on fire,” he said. “It doesn’t rain there. It never rains there. And it’s always been that way. That’s why they film movies there. The problem isn’t climate change, you dammit. It’s a lack of preparation,” Rogan said.

Carolla also mocked claims that sea levels are rising rapidly, arguing that if those claims were true, much of the oceanfront property in Los Angeles that has been there since the 1930s and ’40s would be underwater.

“It’s a weird thing because people in California talk about climate change, but land on the ocean side of PCH costs $10 million more than land on the hill that will be protected from the rising ocean,” he said.

Newsom’s office disputed Rogan and Carolla’s claims, which he described as “unfactual.”

“To say there was a lack of preparation is not actually true; resources were placed in advance, thanks to warnings from the National Weather Service. You can see the historic response on a day-by-day basis. Here,” a spokesperson from Newsom’s office wrote, linking to a long list of Newsom’s efforts, including reducing red tape, to streamline the process of rebuilding what was lost.

“It is also well known that there are significant winds (up to 100 miles per hour in places) that stir the embers (seen here) as well as historically dry grounds (as in) due to lack of rain for a significant period of time documented here).”
