Rohl’s Rangers roll on… should Hearts & Celtic be worried?

It was far from a magical Monday under the lights of Ibrox. Much more, get the job done and hit the road.

But Rangers will rightly keep this going all day for now.

For most of the first half, they were the second best team behind a Hibs team who came flying out of the traps and were cowed by the final third.

David Gray’s side did plenty of attacking from the back, taking advantage of the space the hosts allowed them in midfield, but pulled the handbrake on the Rangers defense who were there to be tested.

It was “the theme of the night” that frustrated Gray, who was looking to lead Hibs to back-to-back league wins at Govan for the first time since 2018, but the Ibrox side also capitalized on it.

The moment Emmanuel Fernandez headed in Dujon Sterling’s stunning cross was completely against the flow of the game.

This didn’t create much of a spark within the Ranger ranks, but it did give them something to protect, and they eventually did so with relatively little fuss.

“It wasn’t always the most beautiful football but we are finding a way to win games,” Rohl told BBC Scotland after his team kept a fifth clean sheet.

“I would like us to be more controlled. I am happy with the points, but of course we need to improve. This is step by step and the important thing for me is to win the matches.”

“The win was deserved, we didn’t play every part of the game the way you thought was ‘great’ but you deserved to win by keeping clean sheets and keeping cool.”
