Serial killer Rose West allegedly groomed and sexually assaulted a “vulnerable” young prisoner in her cell, according to reports. Prison staff immediately intervened and the 74-year-old was summoned to the governor.
Following the crime at New Hall women’s prison near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, prison bosses sanctioned her and stripped her of her privileges, horrifying even experienced prisoners.
The famous prisoner was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995, along with her husband Fred, for the murder of ten women and girls. Those in prison claim that although he “appears to be a frail pensioner” he remains “extremely dangerous”.
According to a source, West established a connection with his victim, believed to be in his 20s, and “basically groomed her” before the alarming attack.
An insider said: “He befriended a young girl in her 20s and groomed her before the attack.
“His victim is defenseless and West took advantage of her before forcing himself on her.
“The whole prison is talking about it and the inmates are shocked at what they might have done. It’s pretty disgusting that he had the freedom to do something like that in the first place,” The Sun reported.
West lives at Rivendell House with 15 other inmates; This is a specialist unit for women with personality disorders or developed status. Each prisoner has his or her own private room.
According to inspectors, common areas are more inviting than other prison wards. He lives in an accessible cell on the ground floor and remains under 24-hour police surveillance due to fears of possible attacks.
West allegedly had a habit of trying to foster relationships with young female inmates and provided assistance with activities such as meal preparation and needlework.
Earlier testimony suggested West pushed Christmas cards under other inmates’ doors in an effort to make connections. He also distributes boxes of candy he purchases from the prison store to selected recipients.
Although he still wears his trademark thick-rimmed glasses, he is now depicted as overweight with silver hair. She officially changed her name to Jennifer Jones in 2020, but her real identity continues to be recognized throughout the facility, according to sources.
Fred West was accused of 12 murders but took his own life in custody in 1995, at the age of 53, before his trial began. Rose West is currently serving a life sentence for 10 murders.
