Manhunt underway in Mississippi for killer in triple homicide that left toddler dead alongside mother and aunt
Authorities in Mississippi launched a manhunt after authorities said a 2-year-old boy was found dead along with his mother and aunt in the state’s capital, Jackson, over the weekend.
Hinds County Prosecutor Jeramiah Howard said the victims were 25-year-old Keyana Weathersby.; son Camari Givens, 2; and his sister, Erica Weathersby, 30. (Police had previously identified one of the victims as 26.)
The sisters, who raised the toddler together, were kind and hard-working, said their brother, Demarco Bailey. CNN affiliate WAPT.
“I just need justice,” Bailey said. “Not just for my sisters, but for my nephew, too. He’s only 2 1/2 years old. Come on — a 2-year-old?”
All three victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Howard told CNN, adding that the scene was one of the worst he had seen in his nearly 10 years as a coroner and deputy coroner.
“First responders, from the fire department to police officers, were visibly impacted by how heinous and violent this crime was,” Howard said.
As of Monday afternoon, authorities do not appear to know who killed the victims. CNN has reached out to the Jackson Police Department for more information.
“Detectives continue to seek clues as to the identities and locations of the suspects,” police said in a news release Sunday.
On Saturday, authorities encountered a “horrifying” scene after Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney called a 911 call reporting an aggravated assault at a home in a residential neighborhood 10 miles northwest of downtown Jackson.

Mayor John Horhn said the City of Jackson had seen an increase in “gun-related violence, shootings and senseless loss of life” in the days before the shooting. a statement Sunday.
The mayor said he is working to deploy “additional resources” to the community, as well as police and the city’s public safety team.
“Over the next few days, we will present a plan that brings together law enforcement, community leaders, violence prevention experts, mental health professionals, our faith community, and leaders of the communities most impacted by these crimes,” he added.
These murders are the 39th, 40th and 41st homicides in the city this year, according to the Jackson Police Department.
