Royal couple share exciting news as they announce birth of first child | Royal | News

Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha of Brunei announced the birth of their daughter over the weekend. Abdul Mateen, the fourth son and tenth child of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, shared the news with his wife in a national broadcast on Sunday.

In the announcement, it was stated that the new girl was born at 8.50 yesterday morning. It was also revealed that celebrations were held following the good news that 17 cannons were fired on the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei.

Brunei’s national public broadcaster RTB said in a post on Instagram: “His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Brunei Darussalam, Her Royal Highness Princess Anisha Rosnah binti Adam, wife of His Royal Highness Prince Muda ‘Abdul Mateen ibni, announces that His Highness Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, with the permission of Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala, gave birth safely to a daughter on Sunday, 20 Syaaban 1447, i.e., February 8, 2026, in the morning. At 8.50.

The royal couple announced last October that they were expecting the prince to share a sweet, black-and-white photo with his wife on his official Instagram account.

The photo, which showed them both dressed in white and dancing softly on the balcony, included the message: “And then there were 3 people.”

Abdul Mateen published another post on December 31 last year, “wishing everyone a Happy New Year.”

While the new baby girl will be a welcome addition to the Brunei royal family, she will not be eligible for a place in the line of succession.

This all stems from the Constitution of Brunei, which states that the succession to the throne of Brunei only allows male descendants of the 26th Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam II to ascend to the throne, stating that genealogy follows the first generation.

Abdul Mateen is fifth in line to the Brunei throne, behind Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, his two sons Prince Abdul Muntaqim and Prince Muhammad Aiman, and the Sultan’s second son, Prince Abdul Malik, who is fourth in line.

The Sultan’s third son, Prince Abdulazim, died in 2020 at the age of 38.
