Royal Mail rolls out ‘postboxes of the future’ across UK
These innovative units have a digitally activated drilling drawer designed to host large parcels as large as a shoe box.
The new design, which heralded the biggest transformation to Postbox in its 175 -year -old year, was tried in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire early this year.
The presentation will now reach big cities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Sunderland.
Customers will be able to scan a barcode through the Royal Mail application to activate the drawer designed for very large products for a traditional letter slot.
The redesigned boxes also have a separate clarity for standard letters and are equipped with a solar panel to provide power to the scanner and drawer mechanism.
The proof of the shipment and parcel monitoring will be offered through the Royal Mail application and the service is primarily targeting individuals who send or return the products purchased online.
In Royal Mail, Jack Clarkson, General Manager of Outside and Commercial Excellence, said, “We all send and return more parcels than ever before.
“This trend will continue only because online shopping, especially with the explosion of second -hand markets, will continue.
“In the UK, there are 115,000 mailboxes at half miles of 98% of the addresses, which makes them the most suitable parcel release points in the UK.
“If you have a Royal mail label on your parcel and sleeps, our message is open and put it in a mailbox and let’s do the rest.”
Royal Mail said the presentation is part of the urge to make the parcels as appropriate as possible.
The company said that in addition to home delivery and collection services, there are more than 23,500 parcel points in the UK, including cabinets, collection+ stores, post office branches, Royal mail customer service scores and existing parcel mailboxes.
