RRR North Segment’s Cost Doubles to ₹15,627 Crore

Hyderabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the cost of the northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) from ₹7,104 crore to ₹15,627 crore following its decision to upgrade the project from four-lane to six-lane corridor to meet future traffic requirements.

The project will now be carried out under the Hybrid Revenue Model (HAM) instead of the previously approved Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. New tenders will be made soon for the revised works.

The original tender, issued in December 2024, covered a 161 km four-lane stretch from Girmapur in Sangareddy district to Tangadpalli in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. However, after the state government requested widening to six lanes and the Center subsequently gave its approval, the award of the tender was postponed. With the revised cost estimate in place, NHAI is all set to invite fresh bids for the upgraded compliance.

According to official sources, tender notifications are expected to be made in December 2025 and the work is aimed to start in May 2025.

In parallel, the state government is accelerating land acquisition processes for both the northern and southern parts, enabling simultaneous construction. Revenue officials have expedited compensation payments to farmers through the ‘Bhoomirashi’ portal of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), ensuring direct transfer of funds to beneficiaries.

Recently, ₹ 2.03 crore was transferred to 49 farmers in Datharpally, Dattaipally, Vellapally, Konapur and Ibrahimpur villages in Turkapally and Yadagirigutta mandals in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. 250 more farmers were identified in the same region and their compensation will be paid in a short time.

Compensation for lands within a radius of 15 kilometers in Choutuppal and Bhuvanagiri mandals has been finalized and foundation work has been expedited for the southern part. This approach will ensure the project moves forward without delays once construction begins, officials said.

The northern section is designated as National Highway 161-AA. The corridor will connect Girmapur in Sangareddy district to Rayagiri in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district and will be designed for vehicle speeds of up to 120 km per hour. The project will be implemented in five packages: Girmapur-Reddipalle (43 km), Reddipalle-Islampur (26 km), Islampur-Pragnapur (23 km), Pragnapur-Rayagiri (43 km) and Rayagiri-Tangadpalli (35 km).
