US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the Pentagon has asked the White House for at least $200 billion to finance the war in Iran.
“I think it could move up to $200 billion,” Hegseth said at a Pentagon briefing when asked about the figure first announced in 2009. Washington Post.
“Killing bad guys takes money, so we’re going back to Congress and the people there to make sure we’re properly funded for what’s been done and what we might need to do in the future.”
This includes reloading ammunition “above and beyond,” he said. Hegseth accused former US president Joe Biden of “running out” of the stocks and sending them to Ukraine.
“This type of funding bill will ensure that we are appropriately funded going forward,” he said.
A senior administration official also told The Associated Press that a $200 billion request had been made.
