Amid the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran, tensions in the Gulf countries have led to rapid spread of rumors about a possible liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shortage across India, creating unnecessary anxiety among the public, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
“Rumors are spreading that there is a shortage of LPG cylinders due to the war in the Gulf countries. Punjab Government is fully alert and monitoring the situation closely,” he said.
‘He will take action’
Warning against attempts to exploit the situation, the Prime Minister said the government would act harshly against anyone trying to create panic or manipulate the supply of essential goods. “If anyone tries to mislead people by hoarding essential goods or spreading rumors of shortages, the harshest exemplary measures will be taken,” he said.
Mr. Mann added that he has discussed the issue with the Union government to ensure adequate supply of LPG cylinders so that common people do not face inconvenience in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Congress party lashed out at the AAP government for clarifying the issue of cooking gas supply across the state.
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring claimed that the gas supply crisis has affected both commercial and domestic consumers, with households also left without supplies for the last few days.
“We are facing a serious problem where people cannot turn on their gas stoves and cook their meals, even though the government seems completely indifferent and uncaring about this issue,” he warned.

Separately, Haryana Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Rajesh Nagar said that currently, supply of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG across Haryana is working smoothly and major oil companies – Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) – have adequate stocks.
He said that there was a temporary disruption in the supply of commercial cylinders, which would be resolved soon.
