Russia sends Trump bold warning over Afghanistan air base plans during Taliban talks | World | News

A senior Kremlin official said that the US should not be allowed to take back a huge air base in Afghanistan, warning that it could lead to “new conflicts”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban government delegation in Moscow hosted these comments.

Taliban rejected the offer of President Donald Trump last month during the 20 -year war in Afghanistan. Lavrov said in his warning to the USA: “The deployment of a third country’s military infrastructure on the territory of Afghanistan and in the territory of neighboring states is categorically unacceptable under any excuse.” The base has been in the hands of the Taliban since the US forces withdrawn in a chaotic way in 2021.

“The military presence of non -region players can only lead to instability and new conflicts,” Mr. Lavrov said.

“In the history of Afghanistan, there have been many situations in which there is a foreign military being. I believe that everyone should reach the right results a long time ago.”

Mr. Trump had previously demonstrated the closeness of the Bagram Air Base to China, the largest economic and military rival of the US, as one of the reasons why the US wanted to be re -existence there.

“One hour away from China’s nuclear weapons,” he said. “So many things are happening.”

At the beginning of an international meeting on Afghanistan, Mr. Lavrov praised Taliban for his efforts to fight against the so -called Islamic State and other pro -excessive groups and to eliminate illegal drugs.

The Taliban recaptured the control of Afghanistan in August 2021 after the withdrawal of NATO forces, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

The former Soviet Union carried out a 10 -year war in Afghanistan, which ended with Moscow’s withdrawal of his troops in 1989.

Russia is the only country to officially recognize the Taliban government.

Mr. Lavrov said that Russia hoped to strengthen business ties with Afghanistan while Russia is working closer together, including the fight against terrorism.

The Taliban promised a more moderate administration than the period from 1996 to 2001, when he was in power, but imposed more and more restrictions on women and girls.

While women are prohibited to be present in most jobs and public places, including parks, baths and gyms, are prohibited from being educated after the sixth grade.

Authorities from China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the talks in Moscow on Tuesday.
