Russian volcano erupts for first time in centuries

A volcano on Russia’s Far East Kamchatka Peninsula exploded for the first time in hundreds of years after a large 8.8 -magnitude earthquake.

According to the personnel at Kronotsky Reserve, where the volcano is located, Krashennikov volcano sent six kilometers to the sky. The images published by the state media showed intense ash clouds rising on the volcano.

Kamchatka’s Ministry of Emergency wrote on the telegram during the explosion, “It is spreading from the feather volcano to the east. It is spreading towards the Pacific Ocean. There is no crowded area along the way and no ashes were recorded in the settlements.”

The explosion was accompanied by a 7.0 earthquake and gave a tsunami warning for three Kamchatka regions. Tsunami warning was later removed by Russia’s Emergency Service Ministry.

“This is the first explosion of the historically approved explosion of the Krashennikov volcano in 600 years,” Kamchatka Volcanic Explosion Intervention Team, RIA Novosti, the Russian State News Agency RIA Novosti. He said.

However, the Global Volcanism program of the Smithsonian Institute in the United States lists Krashennikov’s latest explosion in 1550 years ago.

The reason for the inconsistency was not clear.

Kamchatka volcanic explosion intervention team said that the activity of the volcano decreased late on Sunday, but the “moderate explosive activity” could continue.

The explosion occurred on Wednesday after Russia hit the Far East on Wednesday, causing small tsunami waves in Japan and Alaska and caused warnings towards New Zealand in the south for the Hawaii, North and Central America and Pacific Islands.
