‘The Gimp’ actor Stephen Hibbert from ‘Pulp Fiction’ dead at age 68

“Pulp Fiction” star Stephen Hibbert, known for his portrayal of the character The Gimp, died at the age of 68.
Fox News Digital confirmed that the actor died on March 2 in Denver, Colorado.
A family member told Fox News Digital that Hibbert died after suffering a heart attack. The family member stated that the family is waiting for the autopsy report to determine more details.
While Hibbert is best known for his work on “Pulp Fiction,” he got his start in Hollywood as a writer and lent his talents to “Late Night with David Letterman,” working on the show for 259 episodes from 1984 to 1986. As a writer, he also worked on “Boy Meets World” and “Mad TV.”

Following his role in Quentin Tarantino’s classic film, Hibbert played a guard in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”; “The Cat in the Hat”; and “National Treasure: The Book of Secrets.”
In an interview with AARP For the 30th anniversary of “Pulp Fiction” in October 2024, Hibbert shared what it was like to suddenly be recognized by fans following the film’s release.
“Weekend ‘“I was visiting my mom and dad in San Juan Capistrano when ‘Pulp’ opened,” she said. “When I got home there were two dozen messages on my answering machine, almost all from guys telling me they really enjoyed my performance and if I’d like to meet them for coffee. Ahh!

“These guys had to wait for the credits to end to see who was playing Gimp, then they found a pay phone and called LA 411 and got my number. I quickly changed my number and was taken off the list.”
Hibbert was married to actress Julia Sweeney from 1989 to 1994, and he told AARP they met when Sweeney, who also starred in “Pulp Fiction,” visited The Groundlings theater with Tarantino “when he was a guest at an improv show on Thursday nights.”
“He was much the same then as he is now; funny, endlessly curious and passionate about film,” Hibbert said of his friendship with the director. “Quentin, Julia and I were friends in the movies and worked together sometimes, so he asked us to audition for ‘Pulp Fiction’.”
The actor and writer are survived by three children: Ronnie, Rosalind and Greg.

“Our father, Stephen Hibbert, passed away unexpectedly this week,” the actor’s children said. TMZ in a statement. “His life was filled with love and devotion to art and his family. He will be greatly missed by many.”
