Ryan Giggs stars in video promoting International Women’s Day for Asian betting site – while he seeks football comeback after domestic abuse allegations

Ryan Giggs appeared in a promotional video for an Asian betting company celebrating International Women’s Day.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who acts as an ambassador for betting brand F168, shared the video on his Instagram page on Sunday.

‘Today we celebrate the strength, beauty and achievements of women all over the world,’ says Giggs, 52, in the video.

‘To all the amazing women in our community, continue to shine and inspire us all.’

The former Wales international signs off as he appears to encourage viewers to sign up to the gambling site, adding: ‘Don’t forget to have some fun and play at F168.’

The Instagram post was accompanied by the following caption: ‘Happy Women’s Day! I’m Ryan Giggs, Brand Ambassador for F168.

‘I wish all women confidence, beauty and positive energy today and always. Celebrate this special day with the F168 and make it truly unforgettable!’

Giggs, a key figure in Manchester United’s 1999 Treble-winning team, has struggled to re-establish himself in football since domestic violence allegations against him emerged.

Allegations of assault and controlling or coercive behavior against ex-girlfriend Kate Greville and her sister Emma were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2020.

The retrial was canceled three years later when prosecutors withdrew from the case and his ex-girlfriend Greville refused to testify.

The former United star has always strongly denied the accusations and said he felt ‘deep relief’ at the time, but the controversy has made it difficult for him to regain his footing in public opinion.

In January, it was reported that the Premier League had “shelved plans” for Giggs to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, as the Manchester United great faced domestic abuse charges.

Giggs was planned to be the first member of the Hall of Fame, alongside Alan Shearer, after the Premier League introduced the concept, but he ‘quietly withdrew’ and is yet to be recognized despite being cleared in 2023.

Man United’s record holder was last employed as director of football at League Two club Salford City, but reportedly took a step back from day-to-day duties at the start of the season as he seeks a return to full-time management.

Giggs has failed to find a role as head coach since managing Wales between 2018 and 2022, having previously been interim manager at Manchester United in 2014.

The former Red Devils star also made headlines during his playing career with the news that he was having an affair with his brother Rhodri’s ex-wife in 2011. The relationship, which started in 2003, led to the divorce of 49-year-old Rhodri and his then-wife Natasha.

Rhodri, who is also a semi-professional football player and currently works in recruitment, is preparing to remarry after getting engaged to his new partner Victoria Phillips last October.

Meanwhile, Ryan’s relationship with 37-year-old lingerie model Zara Charles continues. The couple met in 2021 and welcomed their first child, Cora, in November 2024.
