A small Florida bakery is having a Hollywood moment and a surge in orders after actor Ryan Gosling makes an unexpected ad on late-night television.
The excitement started when Gosling appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and raved about the Tallahassee shop known for its homemade pastries.
The actor singled out The Cake Shop, praising its Pop Tart-style treats and encouraging viewers to try them.

Gosling’s connection to the bakery came from a personal connection: “Saturday Night Live” wardrobe supervisor Donna Richards’ sister owns the shop.
During his interview with Meyers, Gosling joked that baking was a staple behind the scenes when he hosted “Saturday Night Live.”

“They have a bakery in Tallahassee, Florida, and they make the most incredible Pop Tarts,” Gosling said. “You should order these Pop Tarts.”
Gosling added that Richards “gives these to you at the beginning of the show, like when you start hosting, so you’re running around on Pop Tarts the whole time.”
“It was a complete shock.”
The unexpected support quickly turned into a business boom.

The bakery was inundated with calls and requests for sweet treats, Tallahassee TV station WCTV reported.
“It was a total shock,” owner Linda Richards told WCTV, describing the sudden surge in interest and demand.

Cake Shop’s pastries are called “Boiled” Tarts.
Richards said Gosling wanted the strawberry flavor; but the treats also come with blueberries, cinnamon, and peanut butter and jelly.
The Cake Shop has been operating in Florida’s capital city for over 25 years. The patisserie is famous for its homemade desserts and classic recipes, with a menu ranging from cakes and cookies to specialty pastries.

According to the bakery’s website, Richards is the daughter of a chef who baked for her family of six, which sparked her interest in baking.
She “brought many family recipes into her baking repertoire,” including oatmeal raisin cookies, “Monkey Pies,” and her “famous” chocolate chip cookies “just like Grandma used to make.”

But even for an established business, a celebrity mention can act like rocket fuel.
Mom-and-pop stores don’t usually get this kind of national exposure, and when they do, the results are immediate.

In this case, the timing added another twist: The college-town bakery was closed for spring break when Gosling’s comments were published, so staffing was riding a wave of pent-up demand.
