British Gas confirms items drivers must put in car this week | Weather | News

Motorists across the UK have been warned to load their cars with essential items as the UK looks set for a major freeze. The Met Office has issued various weather warnings for England from Monday 2 February to Thursday 4 February, warning Brits in some areas about rain and snow.
This comes as the country has experienced severe weather conditions for many days in recent weeks. While most of the weather agency’s latest warnings have warned Britons of heavy rain and possible flooding, the Met Office has warned people in certain areas of snowfall.
Rain in the south of England is forecast to bring risks of flooding and road closures, while sleet and snowfall is expected to cause disruption across Scotland from midnight until 3pm on Wednesday. Although the warning has also only been issued for certain parts of the country, the Met Office advises Brits to check local weather forecasts regularly as warnings can be updated quickly.
In addition to disruption, heavy snowfall and heavy rain can pose many dangers, especially for those who have to travel in such conditions.
The Met Office is urging people to avoid traveling where possible but take precautions, including allowing extra time for journeys if necessary.
Alongside the weather agency, British Gas has also issued advice on how Brits should prepare for heavy snowfall.
British Gas said: “Defroster, scrapers, wiper fluid and antifreeze will all come in handy if you need to drive in cold weather.
“You may even want to keep some jumper cables in the trunk in case your car doesn’t start.
“And before you head out on any road trip, make sure you have some food, water, a torch, your phone and charger, as well as a blanket or two.”
Advice on essential items was echoed by the Met Office: “If you are driving, make sure you have some essential items in your car in case of any delays (e.g. warm clothing, food, water, blanket, flashlight, ice scraper/defroster, warning triangle, high-vis vest and in-car phone charger).
In addition to preparing a car kit, drivers should also check if roads are closed; because this can occur frequently in harsh and winter weather.
