Sajjanar Cautions Public on Rising Frauds by Social Media Influencers
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Saturday warned the public against the increasing trend of scams by social media influencers who trick people and trick them with lucky draws promising cars, bikes, plots and DJ equipment.
In a post on ‘X’, Sajjanar said that after the ban on betting app promotions, many influencers are reinventing themselves by running lucky draw programs on social media platforms to attract gullible users.
Warning of stringent action, the Commissioner of Police said cases will be registered under the Prize Gifts and Money Circulation Schemes (Prohibition) Act, 1978 against fraudsters. “No one will be spared, whether the culprit is a celebrity or a social media star,” he said.
Stating that such programs are designed to steal the hopes of innocent people and often amount to financial fraud, Sajjanar said that strict measures will be taken against anyone who misuses their popularity to deceive the public. He urged citizens to be vigilant and not fall victim to deceptive online schemes.
