Sajjanar Warns Of Whatsapp Fraud

City police commissioner VC Sajjanar on Saturday warned against the new modus operandi of cybercriminals targeting businessmen through WhatsApp impersonation scams. He explained that scammers infiltrate computers with malware by sending malicious phishing links to official email addresses to gain full remote access.

Once inside, the attackers take advantage of active WhatsApp web sessions to pose as senior executives and send misleading messages to accountants. “They claim that they were in an emergency meeting and could not take calls, tricking the staff into transferring millions of rupees instantly to fake accounts,” the commissioner warned.

Since the messages appear to come from real WhatsApp accounts, accountants often believe them and process payments. Sajjanar urged companies to be careful as several such cases have been reported in the jurisdiction of Hyderabad commissionerate recently.

“You should never blindly trust financial requests received via WhatsApp, even if they appear to be coming from superiors. It is important to immediately call the person concerned directly to verify its authenticity before taking any action,” he said.

He advised companies to install high-quality firewalls and antivirus software on office systems and for users to log out of WhatsApp web after each use.

Chief alleges colleague sexually assaulted him

A woman filed a complaint against her senior manager at work, stating that after she got drunk, he was called to her home on the pretext of an official meeting, offered her drinks and took nude videos. He then attempted to sexually assault her. The police launched an investigation against the defendant for attempted sexual assault and under the Information Technology Act.

Security agencies warned against license violation

Police warned private security agencies of violating regulations by operating without a valid licence. Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act (PSARA)) and appointing guards and overseers in violation of legal provisions.

Excise Police from Maharashtra Arrest 4, Seize Ganja Worth ₹ 21.5 Lakh
