Washington: United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will take a harsh trade action against countries that maintain commercial ties with Iran, declaring that he will impose a 25 percent flat tax on all business dealings of these countries with the United States. The decision was announced in a post on Truth Social; He said the measure would take effect immediately and described the decision as final.

“Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran shall pay a 25% Tariff on all business with the United States. This Order is final and final. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” He has made clear that Washington plans to use economic pressure as a tool to isolate Tehran.

The announcement has significance for many countries, including India, which has had commercial ties with Iran for years. New Delhi already faces a 50 percent cumulative tariff on its exports to the United States, with 25 percent linked to its ongoing purchases of Russian oil, in a move Washington says supports Moscow’s war efforts in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India and Iran are important trading partners; New Delhi has been among Tehran’s five biggest commercial allies in recent years. While India exports rice, tea, sugar, medicines, synthetic fibers, electrical machinery and artificial jewelery to Iran, it imports dried fruits, chemicals and glassware from the country.
