Santander closing 76 banks across UK in 2025 – full list | UK | News
It’s been another tough year for Britain’s high street, with a number of major banks closing dozens of branches. Santander has closed 76 banks so far in 2025 and another branch will close next month.
The widespread closures come amid a shift in customer behavior as more people opt for online or mobile app banking services. Santander has confirmed that its Surrey Quays branch in London will close on 18 November, alongside banks that have closed so far this year. Another 18 banks will close, but closing dates have not yet been announced. Meanwhile, working hours have been reduced in 36 Santander banks as of June 30.
A spokesperson from Santander UK said: “We are ensuring our branches remain fit for the future as customer behavior changes. Our new combination of Work Cafés, walk-in branches and reduced opening hours branches, as well as full-service branches, aims to strike the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.”
“As a business, we must align with customers and balance our investment across all places where we engage customers, delivering them the best now and in the future.
They added: “Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we are spending a lot of time considering where and when to do this and how to minimize the impact on our customers.
“However, we believe the rapid and innovative improvements to our award-winning mobile banking app, alongside the introduction of our new Community Bankers and the exciting plans we have for our remaining network of 349 branches and Business Cafés, will deliver the right balance between digital banking and human interaction where needed.”
Branch closures and the shift to digital banking have raised concerns for older and vulnerable customers who still rely on face-to-face services. Those who rely less on technology or need access to cash may be affected by closures.
The following Santander banks are also preparing to close, but their closure dates have not yet been announced.
