Newly freed former congressman George Santos didn’t take kindly to a CNN question Sunday about President Donald Trump’s “positive” commutation of him, saying there will always be critics who “clutching pearls” and attacking President Joe Biden’s blanket pardons of his family members before leaving office.

In announcing his commutation of Santos’ sentence, Trump called him “kind of a thug” while pointing out that Santos was willing to “ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICANS”; This has led critics to say Trump is displaying blatant partisan favoritism.

“There’s a lot of people who are really unhappy about your replacement because they see it as President Trump giving you preferential treatment because you’re a staunch ally of his,” CNN’s Dana Bash told Santos on “State of the Union.”

“Do you know?” Santos replied. “I say that, and I hate that we have to go down this path. And there are a lot of people who are angry that President Biden made the unprecedented move of pardoning his entire family before leaving office. So I’m sorry if I’m not paying too much attention to the anger of my critics and the people, predominantly on the left, who would go out there and try to make a big deal out of something like this.”

Santos noted that Biden forgave his embattled son, Hunter Biden, after previously promising not to do so.

“I didn’t see any anger,” Santos said before Bash immediately intervened, noting that the former president had been harshly criticized for breaking his promise.

“There was some anger because a lot of people were literally licking their wounds because they said, ‘You see, he’s very generous and he’s not going to do this. He’s doing exactly the right thing.’ So he lied,” Santos said. “So I’m not going to argue that… Look, there’s always going to be critics. People are going to love me. People are going to hate me. It doesn’t matter who gets mercy in the future or who that person is going to be. I’m pretty sure if President Trump had pardoned Jesus Christ from the cross, there would have been critics. So that’s the reality of our country.”
