A British skier died in an avalanche in the French Alps.

In the statement made by the La Plagne resort in southeastern France, it was stated that the man, believed to be in his 50s, was found under 2.5 meters of snow after a 50-minute search.

The resort added that he was skiing off-piste when the avalanche occurred.

A team of more than 50 people, including paramedics, ski school instructors and dogs, took part in the rescue operation on Sunday afternoon.

The man was skiing with a group when the incident occurred, but the resort said the man was not equipped with an avalanche transceiver or accompanied by a professional instructor.

La Plagne said his thoughts are with the man’s family.
