Sarah Ferguson’s subtle swipe at Meghan Markle | Royal | News

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s announcement of their baby news on Princess Eugenie’s wedding day was believed to have angered Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex found out they were pregnant with their first child, Prince Archie, in 2018, just a few months after their big Windsor wedding, while still working within the royal family.

But their big news coincided with, and perhaps even overshadowed, the wedding day of Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie. While Harry and Meghan only told a few people at the wedding, the baby news was announced by Kensington Palace soon after.

According to royal writers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the decision “did not end well” for Eugenie.

This announcement appeared to drown out news of Princess Eugenie’s wedding, which disturbed Eugenie’s mother, Sarah.

Although Sarah, 65, didn’t say as much, she did post a series of tweets about Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank’s wedding; It was fitting when Kensington Palace made Harry and Meghan’s baby news public.

Rather than insiders saying Fergie was furious at the couple for leaving her daughter behind, it is believed this was an attack on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who tried to hide the news with their wedding photos.

While Sarah may have viewed the timing of the couple’s pregnancy announcement as an inconvenience, Harry explained in his Spare memoir why he decided to tell royal relatives on his cousin’s wedding day.

“Euge was marrying Jack and, selfishly, we were wildly happy for them and ourselves, because Jack was one of the people we loved the most,” she wrote in her 2023 memoirs.

He continued: “Meg and I were supposed to go on our first official overseas tour as a married couple, but we postponed our departure by a few days so we could be at the wedding.

“In addition, the various gatherings associated with the wedding will also provide a chance to pull family members aside one by one and tell them our good news.”

News of the couple’s pregnancy was made public on October 15, three days after Princess Eugenie’s wedding.
