Sasikala Hints at Floating New Party on Jayalalithaa’s Birth Anniversary

Chennai: Expelled from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader V K Sasikala on Tuesday signaled a possible political announcement and stated that “good news will come” ahead of the birth anniversary celebrations of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

Speaking to reporters, Sasikala said, “There is an event for Amma’s birthday today. We are organizing an event for her birthday where good news will come.”

His remarks come at a time when there is ongoing speculation about his political future and the possibility of forming a new political outfit following his expulsion from the AIADMK.

Before her remarks, Sasikala presented flowers to Jayalalithaa as well as AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.

As Tamil Nadu gears up for Assembly elections later this year, Sasikala held a meeting with her supporters in Chennai earlier this month.

Sasikala, once the Acting General Secretary of the AIADMK and a close aide of Jayalalithaa, was expelled from the party after her conviction in the disproportionate assets case. He expects a comeback in the 2026 state assembly polls.

Arasan, one of the expelled leader’s supporters, said, “We stand by Chinnamma and will stand by her no matter what. Whatever decision she takes in the upcoming 2026 elections, we will stand by Chinnamma. I have been a very staunch supporter of VK Sasikala and her husband Natarajan since my childhood. This will always continue.”

The 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly will go to polls in the first half of 2026, where the incumbent MK Stalin-led alliance will try to engineer ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’ for victory against the BJP-AIADMK alliance.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s entry with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is expected to turn the Tamil Nadu polls into a three-way contest.

In the 2021 polls, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won 133 seats. Congress won 18 seats, PMK five, VCK four and others eight. The Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), led by the DMK and comprising the Congress, collectively won 159 seats.

While NDA won 75 seats, AIADMK emerged as the largest party in the alliance with 66 seats.
