Savishesha to help in achieving objective of disabled-friendly Kerala: Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that ‘Savishesha – Carnival of the Different’ is a new step towards achieving the goal of disabled-friendly Kerala.

He was speaking after the inauguration ceremony of the valedictory ceremony of the three-day celebration organized by the Social Justice department for the differently-abled here on Wednesday.

“The Savisesha carnival was not just a celebration, but also a declaration that there is nothing that differently-abled people cannot do,” the Prime Minister said.

Differently disabled people from various districts exhibited their talents in the fields of art, literature and sports over the past three days, showing that talent knows no boundaries. Mr. Vijayan said the determination shown by them was a lesson for the younger generation.

The job fair for the differently-abled organized by the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission and the Ministry of Labor received good response from job seekers and employers. He pointed out that standing on one’s own feet brings not only financial independence but also increased self-confidence.

At the event, he called on parents to take their children outside the four walls of their homes, identify and develop their talents, and instill in them that they belong to this world as much as everyone else. Having different abilities did not mean that a person was less talented; The Prime Minister just said that someone has a different talent.

Students also had a role in helping them recognize the special talents of those who studied with them and see them as the same as everyone else. He said that teachers should equip their students to do this and called on everyone to benefit from events such as carnivals to the maximum extent.

Mr. Vijayan stated that attitudes towards differently-abled people are changing and people are realizing that they want equal rights. This was the reason for the shift from the welfare of the differently abled to the security of their rights.

Mr. Vijayan said the government has increased reservation and pensions for differently enabled and implemented initiatives like Barrier-Free Kerala and Anuyatra to send the message that the society is with them.

Congratulating the festival participants and winners, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that their success will inspire others.

Minister of Social Justice R. Bindu said that the carnival will be celebrated in the coming years as well.

Bindu, the government’s Kerala State Differently Abled Welfare Corporation Ltd. It said it has sanctioned ₹ 23.85 crore through additional authority for provision of three-wheelers, electronic wheelchairs and other assistive devices to applicants through. These will be available this financial year.

Malappuram district won the first position in overall performance. Thiruvananthapuram ranked second and Kottayam ranked third.

In addition to the carnival logo design competition, the Minister gave awards to the winners and district teams in literary competitions and inclusive sports events.
