Saxony exploring deep ties with Tamil Nadu in education, high-tech manufacturing, and skilling

The German Free State of Saxony is considering deepening its relations with Tamil Nadu in the field of education and economy. Discussions are also ongoing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on skills for high-tech sectors such as semiconductors and advanced manufacturing.
“We want to strengthen our ties with Tamil Nadu,” said Dirk Panter, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action of Saxony, in his speech on the sidelines of the Tamil Nadu-Saxony Business Meeting jointly organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of South India and the German Government of Saxony.
“We are keen to collaborate on concrete projects, especially in the industrial sector,” he added. “Our focus areas include semiconductors and skilled workforce development, as there is a strong demand in these areas.”
He further said, “We are here for a week, spending time in both Chennai and Coimbatore. We will visit various textile companies in Coimbatore. The textile industry in Saxony has a rich tradition, similar to India. Our aim is to explore potential business opportunities and areas of cooperation.”
Nils Geibler, Director General of Saxony’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action, said Saxony sees Tamil Nadu as a natural partner due to the remarkable industrial similarities between the two regions. Both have deep-rooted strengths in automotive, microelectronics, healthcare, and research-based manufacturing. He also said that the team is looking for skilled labor in Tamil Nadu.
